Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation provides an alternative education program that engages at-risk youth through a unique combination of outdoor experiential learning, academics, counseling, and community involvement. The program is specifically designed to address the needs of youth who are not able to cope in regular high school classes.
Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation benefited in several ways from the contributions of the Partner team. During SVP's involvement with the organization, a new Executive Director was hired, adding much-needed administrative and fundraising capacity. The organization's profile within the community and with funders increased significantly, and they now do a better job of communicating the value of their program. The board was expanded, and a clear financial plan for sustaining new programs and increasing capacity in the long term was created. Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation has also implemented more performance measurement, benchmarking and research to improve rigour for planning.
"Your three-year investment continues to transform the organization. Today, we have the capacity to help twice as many students and we are reviewing how we can have an even greater impact on youth and fulfill our mission of 'enabling at-risk youth to reclaim their lives.'"— Phil Cotteril, Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation Board Chair
