PEERS Vancouver Resource Society is an organization dedicated to preventing the entry of minors in the sex industry and to providing exiting options to those who desire to leave it. With over 3000 sex workers in BC, they are the only organization that offers specific programming to help those in the sex trade secure and maintain employment in the mainstream world. With a 6- month comprehensive employability program funded by MSHD (Ministry of Social Housing and Development) delivered by experiential staff who know first-hand the barriers surrounding exiting, PEERS changes lives.
The majority of sex workers did not have the choice of entry. Most are coerced and kept through violence, prejudice and a lack of other options. Recovery from sex work is hard. This industry brands the psyche of the person with its stigma. At PEERS, we know what it takes for an individual to get out and stay out of the sex trade. We know because we ourselves have done it.
I lost my soul in the sex trade but when I came to PEERS, I found my spirit
